Shetland 5-stars clean ship
The LNG-powered cement carrier mv Shetland has obtained the highest ranking in the Clean Shipping Index, 5-stars. This is a great achievement which reflects the excellent environmental performances of the vessel.
As a result of LNG (liquefied natural gas), air emissions such as CO2, NOx, SOx and PM are significantly lower compared to conventional ships. The vessel is equipped with a ballast water treatment system and a water lubricated stern tube. In addition, the mv Shetland is the first vessel of the JT Cement fleet fitted with an installation for shore-side electricity. With six shore connections (photo) the vessel can receive sufficient power for discharge operations. This usually demands a high amount of energy generated by the engines onboard. Using shore-side electricity will eliminate the air emission in port and also reduce noise.
A clean ship is good for the environment, also the 5-star ranking is worth significant discount on port and fairway dues. Check out the 5-stars vessels in the showroom of the Clean Shipping Index.
