Karin Orsel has been awarded the 2025 IMO Gender Equality Award.

Karin Orsel, CEO of MF Shipping Group and president of the European Community Shipowners' Associations (ECSA), has won the 'IMO Gender Equality Award 2025'. The award was presented by IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez at an official ceremony at the IMO headquarters in London last Friday.

The IMO Gender Equality Award recognises individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to promoting diversity and inclusivity within the maritime industry. Karin Orsel was celebrated as a maritime pioneer who has advocated for gender equality, seafarers' welfare, and sustainable progress within the industry for decades.

The review panel commended her 'long-term commitment to positive change, her authenticity, and her courage in standing up for her convictions, even in difficult circumstances'.

As CEO of MF Shipping Group, Orsel has been actively promoting an inclusive corporate culture for more than 20 years. She invests in attracting diverse talent, offers mentorship and supports numerous initiatives aimed at promoting equality within the industry.

In addition to her current roles, she was previously president of WISTA International and WISTA Netherlands, and sits on the boards of leading organisations such as the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), INTERTANKO and the Koninklijke Vereniging van Nederlandse Reders (KVNR).

This award recognises her as a leading figurehead for the maritime sector worldwide.
