New Thun Tanker launched
On Friday morning, 17 October 2025, the Ferus Smit shipyard in Leer hosted the launch celebrations for the Thun Renew, the third of six “R-Class” sister ships for Thun Tankers, built in collaboration with MF Shipping Group as the ship's manager.
Marga de Mol, partner of recently retired MF Shipping Group captain Frank van der Elsen, had the honour of christening the ship.
Frank served as captain on Thun's tankers, contributing his experience and leadership to the safe and reliable operations that both companies are renowned for.
Marga de Mol is no stranger to the maritime world. Actively involved as a coach and external confidential advisor for various organisations in the sector, she is committed to fostering a culture of safety, ethics and care, values that align seamlessly with the vision of both Thun Tankers and MF Shipping Group.
The launch of this new tanker is another milestone in the long-standing collaboration between Thun Tankers, Ferus Smit and the MF Shipping Group. The new vessels embody the essential characteristics of Erik Thun AB's modern fleet: efficiency, safety and sustainability.
MF Shipping Group is responsible for the project management, technical operation and nautical operation of the new ship.
